Produced by Kavita Machhindra Kambli and directed by Kumar Sohni, the new
Marathi play 'Sukhanshi Bhandato Aamhi' was the opening attraction at the week
long MIFTA Festival, which began on 16th August 2011 at Ravindra Natya Mandir,
Prabhadevi. This new play starring
Dr. Girish Oak and
Chinmay Mandlekar in lead
roles, is about the emotions and thoughts that sometimes play havoc in the life
of a person. It's also about the conscience that holds many people from taking
certain decisions against their wish. But, as someone has rightly said, "Just
living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom, and satisfaction."
'Sukhanshi Bhandato Aamhi' scripted by Abhiram Bhadkamkar supported by backstage
management by Pradeep Mulye, first begins with the Doctor patient relationship
and later stretches further from his clinic to his home. Dr. Shree (Dr. Girish
Oak) who is a Psychiatrist has a big dream of constructing his own hospital.
In his mission, he is supported by his ambitious wife (Rekha Bade) and son
Akshay, who is doing his MBA.
While the Doctor keeps himself busy attending his consulting room cum clinic,
his gorgeous wife manages all the paperwork using the influence of their family
friends, even going to the extent of grabbing a land meant for children's
playground, for their proposed hospital project. She also manages finance for
the project. Both husband and wife have a strong feeling that their son would
manage the administration of the hospital soon after completing his MBA.
One day, the Doctor comes across a Schizophrenia patient -Sada Nashikkar (Chinmay
Mandlekar), who is just out of jail after undergoing sentence for killing his
wife and son. When Sada first approaches him, the doctor treats him like any
other patient suffering from this disorder and avoids talking to him much. But,
when he learns about his intelligence and his approach towards the life, he not
only becomes friendly with him; but also offers him a room in his clinic, so as
to treat him under his special care. At the clinic, Sada also wins the heart of
the moody attendant Kamlabai and goes on to help a regular patient Ms. Pradhan
with his methodology, to overcome her chronic problem of Insomnia.
While treating Sada, the Doctor turns nostalgic and starts thinking about his
past and his conscience forces him to bring his mother from village to his
place. But, Doctor's wife who believes in materialistic living, does not approve
the Doctor turning nostalgic. She blames Sada for her husband's change of
behavior and goes to the extent of driving him away from their clinic. But, her
interaction with Sada and subsequent developments in her family turns her
hostile. Her sensible husband tries to persuade her to accept the new changes
coming in their life with a challenge. The play ends with a dramatic climax.
'Sukhanshi Bhandato Aamhi' is a thought provoking drama offering plenty of scope
to both Dr. Girish Oak and Chinmay Mandlekar to express their emotions with body
language. Their humour filled discussions add that extra zest to all those
scenes, be it arguments at the clinic or at home while sharing their drinks. The
dialogues are well written. Music by Ashok Patki goes well with the change of
scenes. Set design and lighting is elegant and the two lead artistes in this
play are well supported by other co-artistes who have got plenty of scope
to display their acting skills in this play. The subject of Mind and
thoughts is well enthused from start to finish.
