Subodh Bhave, Lagna Bambal
The occasion was Lata Narvekar's new play, 'Mi Revati Deshpande' which was premiered on 27th October 2011 at Borivali's Prabodhankar Thackeray Hall. It brought together two stalwarts of Marathi entertainment industry- Mr. Mohan Joshi and Mr Ramesh Bhatkar together after almost 30 long years. Their last popular play was 'Katha Kunachi Vyatha Kuna'. Watching them together in this unconventional Marathi play, was itself a big gift for Marathi theatre lovers.

'Mi Revati Deshpande' written by Shekhar Patil and directed by Kumar Sohani , revolves around the main character of Ravishankar Sane (Mohan Joshi) , a professor of Marathi, His wife Deepa (Sheetal Shukla) is a possesive housewife and a self centered newly married son - Ajay, who who has just set up a modern Gym. Professor's daughter-in-law
-Rasika(Reshmi Gokhale) is a girl with modern thinking. The professor can't get along well with his wife( Sheetal Shukla) and son( Sankarshan ), who suspect him to be a womaniser and in relationship with a woman called Revati Deshpande. It is only his daughter-in-law, his family friend Dr. Jayanta( Ramesh Bhatkar) and his domnestic help understand his emotions and feelings.

Everything goes on well, with few misunderstandings here and there, till the topic of Revati creates havoc in their family. The play moves on successfully holding the suspense about Revati's appearance. It is only in the climax, Revati appears to surprise one and all with her real identity. Director Kumar Sohni has very cleverly presented the play, totally engrossing the audience throughout the play. This being an inaugural show, few things didn't go well, like entry and exit of the Professor and his wife. Sometimes they walked upstairs for their bedroom and sometimes on the left side of the set. Professor's son who owns a fitness centre takes his entry from morning walk with slippers generally used at home. And, last but not the least, the Specialist Doctor shown as chain smoker. The play is for sensible audience and therefore the regular marathi drama audience would welcome the theme of this unconventional play presented by Lata Narvekar.

Both Ramesh Bhatkar and Mohan Joshi have given their best through their respective roles. While Ramesh impresses with his rich dialogue delivery and appealing personality; Mohan Joshi has paid more attention on his body language to indicate his attraction towards women, but at the same time he uses his intelligence to impress upon the opposite sex. In few scenes he expresses his emotions very well. Reshma Gokhale, plays the daughter-in-law of professor with total commitment. She too has given her best performance. Sankarshan as Professor's disturbed son also gives his best in that role of Ajay. Professor's wife played by Sheetal Shukla acts a perfect housewife, who keeps on nagging her husband most of the time.

With a good background music by Rahul Ranade and a suitable production design by the group makes 'Mi Revati Deshpande' is a special gift on the occasion of Diwali to theatre lovers. It's something different!
