Marathi dramas are known for their sensational subjects. The kind of support
such plays receive from the audience, is known to all. There are people, who
spend Rs,. 200/- per ticket to watch such plays, but the same people don't dare
to spend even half this amount to watch a Marathi film. They form a different
class. One such sensational play 'Bharat Bhagyavidhata' is inviting the
attention of theatre lovers these days. Headed by versatile actor Sharad
Ponkshe, the play begins at a Local police station in Mumbai and is set on the
backdrop of a common case of hit and run taking place in Central Mumbai.
We find an intelligent police cop Mr. Chondkar (Sharad Ponkshe) progressing
with the investigation of this case. He smells something fishy, while
interrogating the three eye witnesses and the driver of the Car, who is supposed
to have accidentally hit a motorcycle rider wearing a helmet. The eye witnesses-
Renu- a collegian ( Amruta Sakpal) a young photographer-Chandu ( Sachin Suresh)
from Virar on an assignment and Mr. Gangal( Milind Safai) , a senior citizen
from Shivaji Park; happen to be at the accident spot for some reason or the
other. All three of them are in possession of some evidence, in the form of
photos or video clips of the happening. But, these three people receive a
threat, to part with the evidence. And, that's the reason , they are at the
police station.
Inspector Chondkar, investigates all three of them, including the driver of the
vehicle Nissar ( Hridaynath Jadhav). While the investigation is on, a news
strikes about the sudden disappearance of the motorcycle rider from the
Hospital, while he was still in Coma. Inspector Chondkar becomes extra alert and
advises his deputy ( Pankaj Chemburkar) to find all the details of the rider and
his vehicle registration. On further inquiry, the investigation takes a
different turn.
While this interesting investigation is on, it receives a setback; with new
developments. But, the honest and committed Inspector with the help of three
witnesses and the accused
car driver, finally uncover the mystery behind such
happening. How they plan and what they expose, is all that the play has tried to
show in the concluding part. The visual effects have been cleverly used and so
is the good work by set designers to make quick changes . Light effects have
been used cleverly.
The play is certainly inspiring, for the manner in which it shows the alertness
of common citizens of Mumbai. It also goes on to show the clean image of Mumbai
police. "There may be few corrupt people in the force, but the others are clean
and efficient, because of whom the nation is safe," utters the Inspector; while
clearing a doubt raised by the three witnesses. In the post interval session,
the play slightly deviates from the subject, when the Inspector tries to lecture
Mr. Gangal, over his affection for U.S, where both his sons are settled. But,
that was necessary to open the eyes of some people, who feel that their growth
is only in U.S. Barring this scene, the play has tried to hold the audience to
their seats. The hard hitting dialogues are well suited to this sensational
subject.
Sharad Ponkshe stands tall in the role of a honest Inspector; but, without the
support of the talented team of artistes like Milind Safai, Sachin Suresh,
Amruta Sakpal , Hridaynath Jadhav and Pankaj Chemburkar, it would not have been
possible to create that desired impact of the happening. Just watch them
enacting their actions after the accident, in front of the Inspector at the
Police station. They are all perfectly suited to their respective roles and have
performed superbly. Through their characters, they represent the cross section
of the society in this city of Mumbai.
Rahul Ranade's background music is apt for the situation. But, in the climax,
the background sound goes too loud to indicate police firing. Director Mangesh
kadam has given justice to Jitendra Patil's sensational script. Through every
character, he has tried to portray their problems, their emotions and their love
for the country.
