“ 160 minutes of non stop entertainment.” That’s how Sanjay Narvekar’s new play ‘Bajirao Mast Me’ can well be described. This actor is full of energy and potential when it comes to displaying his boundless talent with spontaneity and remarkable body language. His timing is so perfect that every time he freezes his action, he receives a big applause from the audience. That shows his self confidence in whatever he delivers.
Indeed, Sanjay Narvekar has put in his heart into the role of Bajirao in the play ‘Bajirao Mast Me’, which is based on a simple tale of a two wheeler mechanic who runs his garage adjacent to the house of an ex-taxi driver who is addicted to drinking. This man has live-in-relationship with a bar dancer turned Orchestra dancer –Chandrika and the couple has offered shelter to Bajirao since his childhood treating him like their own son. There is also one young girl, who is being brought up by the couple, as she happens to be Chandrika’s friends daughter who is an orphan now. The girl who is Bajirao’s Rakhi sister now, earns for her living by selling petty things in local train.
One day Bajirao comes across a new client Rashmi , who enters his garage to repair her scooter. The girl falls in love with Bajirao, as he helps her overcome her problems by suggesting Baba Ramdev’s theory of taking deep breaths. From heron the play takes a new turn and what we witness on the stage is non stop entertainment.
The writer has tried to show the existing humanity among those who themselves struggle in their own lives. At the same time he displays the hypocrisy among the so called high society people. The director has exploited the talent of Sanjay Narvekar, paying more attention on his timely dialogue delivery and his spontaneous body language at a given situation. Each and every character in this play is a right choice to interact perfectly among each others. It is because of their perfect co- ordination that the play becomes more lively.
‘Bajirao Mast Me’ does not have an extra ordinary story, but its neat presentation supported by wonderful performances from the artistes, makes a good comedy. Besides Sanjay Narvekar the other star performers are Bhalchandra Kadam, Bhakti Desai, Asavari Tare, Sandhya Mhatre, Madhuri, Vaibhav and Shashank Kevale. Written by Sachin Mote, this play is directed by Sachin Goswami.
