Opposition fails to trap Home Minister in 2G Scam |

The news about involvement of Mr. P. Chidambaram in 2 G scam and the reported
news about the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee submitting his report to
PM's office about his involvement with Mr. Raja had raised lot of speculations
about his CBI inquiry, but the Prime Minister coming to his rescue and the
Congress president suggesting the Finance Minister to come clean against the
Home Minister, has averted the trouble with the UPA Government for the time
being.
However, the media reports clearly indicated that the opposition failed to trap
the Home Minister in such a situation. Almost all the channels had hinted that
the Home Minister was in trouble and had also showed his willingness to resign
before the Congress president. But, like we have seen it happen in the past
about the controversies over high profile ministers, this issue also seems to
have died down. It all remains to be seen how Mr. Anna Hazare and his group who
are fighting against corruption, are going to react against it. The social
activist has already spoken against the attitude of the Home Minister, by
calling him 'a liar'.
Watching the debates arising out of this 2G scam' and involvement of Mr.
Chidambaram and thereafter the PM openly coming in his support, has raised many
voices from cross section of the society. The opinion polls clearly indicate
that both the Home Minister and Prime Minister knew about the dealings of Raja
and had indirectly supported him. But, they all expressed faith in the Judiciary
and felt that the law will take its own time and all those behind the scam will
be behind the bars. However, many have questioned as to why there is a separate
law for Mr. Raja and Mr. Chidambaram ?
End of the week, Marathi news channels gave prominance to the news on master
Blaster Sachin Tendulkar occupying his new house without proper occupation
certificate. This issue too invited a debate on news channels, whether it was a
deliberate attempt on the part of BMC to bring him into trouble over the issue
of penalty to be imposed. Now, this issue has invited a political fight, causing
embarassment to the cricket mastero.
Latest news on Former Chief Minister's role in 'paid news' during the assembly
polls in 2009 has brought further trouble to Mr. Ashok Chavan, whose appeal has
been turned down by the Delhi High Court. The former CM had appealed to the
court to withdraw the Elections Commission's powers to investigate in his
matter. Now, if the former minister is held guilty, he will be suspended as MLA
for next 3 years, the news repotted. It will not be surprising, if there are
debates held on news channels on this issue too.
Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Narendra Modi still continues to remain in limelight
this week. This time it is for his absence at Mr. Advani's rally. But, he has
quickly given the reason for the same. At the same time, the news about the
arrest of the IPS officer Mr. Bhatt for falsely implicating him into a case and
the statement given by the deputy- Mr. Pant against Mr. Bhatt for pressurising
him to lodge a case against Mr. Modi, has only kept him in news. There are
already speculations in the media that BJP would field him as the Prime
Mninisterial cnadidate for the next elections.
