September 2011. Week 2
Marathi serials should be more convincing |

During the second week of September, there seemed to be lot of changes taking
place in the entertainment programmes on Marathi television. The popular
programme on social justice to the needy people involved in small business-
'Bole Toh Malamaal' on Mi Marathi channel, which received a good response from
the Marathi artistes will now be taking a break. Sachin Pilgaonkar was the last
guest participant to have helped a vendor near a temple. Their effort was
sincere and the programme anchor played a big role with her spontaneity,
especially at a time when the guest returned back to the studio after a tiring
day.
What was not convincing was the guest artiste leaving the studio along with
the concerned vendor for the full day business after introduction. At that
stage, the anchor used to address the audience present in the studio to wait for
their return. How could the home viewers be convinced that the audience at the
studio wait for the whole day till the return of the guest and the vendor back
to the studio? Even some of the arguments with the guest during the sell of
items fail to convince. To make the programme more realistic, when they begin
again, let's hope that they look into these aspects.
On Star Pravah, 'Mann Udhaan Varyache' still drags on with the same old plot
with so called twist, by bringing back Neerjaa. It clearly indicated that the
actress had taken a break to perform on stage and has only returned back with
her convenience. After trying out those Bollywood plots from Karan Johar films,
it seems there is nothing much left in the serial to push forward the script.
Mi Marathi's popular comedy serial began well with some humour arising out of
the Saas- Bahu confrontation; but now the serial all of a sudden has started
showing the past episodes, without making an official announcement. And, that
really is like fooling the viewers. If you cannot maintain the continuity, it
is better to take a break and begin later.
Star Pravah's 'Lakshya' also began well with interesting stories in the initial
episodes almost going on the lines of popular Hindi serial 'CID'. But, in a
particular episode of kidnapping the children one by one and later the police
nabbing the culprit; he tries to justify the reason for the same i.e. to teach a
lesson to the parents who were behind the death of his son. With an hour long
drama of nabbing the criminal, if the script needs the sympathy of the viewers
for such an act, it does send a wrong message to the society and the purpose of
creating that desired impact of investigation is lost. Otherwise, this serial
has good team of artistes looking more realistic in their respective roles.
Let's hope that serial moves ahead with more interesting and inspiring stories of
Police investigations.
The reality shows continue to dominate among music lovers, with
Siddharth Jadhav
dominating the scene as an anchor in Star Pravah's 'Aata Houn Jaoo Dya' while
Nilesh Sable proceeding with
Zee Marathi's popular comedy show 'Fu Bai Fu'
towards the final round. There has not been many interesting happenings on the
news front, except for the live coverage in the news of Ganapati immersion on
11th September brought live by some of the channels. Saam TV brought out a
detailed coverage live from all over Maharashtra that evening.
