Mumbai 227 to take on Political parties

With few months left for BMC elections in Mumbai, division of votes is certain with new parties, new alliances being formed. But, now the latest news on TV is that a group of citizens in Mumbai have formed a Forum i.e. Mumbai 227, which is a platform to launch clean and genuine independent candidates for the civic polls in February 2012. The group has already unveiled their strategies and the process for selection of candidates. Few of them spoke about their plans to fight elections, almost on the lines of Anna Hazare's movement.

Mumbai 227 group representatives will personally contact all the registered housing societies, NGOs and slums in the city, asking them to send their representatives to be part of the voter representative council (VRC). These members of the VRC will later decide on potential candidates, after ascertaining his or her details from Police record and then their details will be posted on the website. www.mumbai227.com Almost like applying for a job, the candidates will have to submit recommendations. Isn't that a biggest challenge for the Political parties, since this group will be contesting all 227 seats as independents?

Recently, there was some controversy over Anna Hazare's blog writer. Some news channels reported that Anna's blogging controversy was a Congress plot. It was also quoted that Congress leaders used Anna's blogger to disturb team Anna. There were also allegations that Mr.Vilasrao Deshmukh and Balasaheb Thorat had a plan to disturb Anna, with their agents visiting Ralegan very often. Sources also pointed out that the NCP politicians were also at work. Anna Hazare has also suggested that his blogger had cheated him. In marathi, he used the term 'Vishwasghat' to describe the person. It was also alleged that the blogger used Anna's unsigned letter; which was a kind of fraud.

Latest news at the end of the first week was about the clashes between the workers of Nilesh Rane MP of Congress party and Mr. Bhaskar Jadhav of NCP and MOS of Urban Development Govt of Maharashtra. A police complaint was lodged by Mr. Bhaskar Jadhav's group against Mr. Nilesh Rane for directing his workers to attack the office of Mr. Jadhav. The TV news also reported that Mr. Jadhav's supporters retaliated. It was a show of strength before the local body elections, the channels reported.

On the sports front there was a good news for India, as Ashish Sakharkar from Maharashtra won a Bronze medal in the Mr. Universe Bodybuilding competition. Speaking to the news channels, Ashish aimed at winning the Gold in the next Mr. Universe Bodybuilding championship. The news also reported the daily diet of Ashish, which comprised of 50 eggs, 1 kg of Chicken, 1 kg Bananas besides other supplements which amounted to an expenditure of Rs. 2500/- per day. But, that was worth his requirement, said his proud mother.

In the entertainment section, there isn't much to report as some of the variety entertainment programmes continue to dominate the serials, except for 'Lakshya' on Star Pravah twice a week and 'Guntata Hriday Hey' on Zee Marathi from Monday to Saturday late night, which continue to progress on popularity graph.
