Salim Durani , the Indian cricket's much-loved man, has finally
been rewarded with the coveted C.K. Nayadu Lifetime Achievement
Award by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The popular
tall and stylish cricketer who played 29 tests for India during
60s and early 70s was a finest all rounder in the Indian team.
He was known for hitting a six on public demand. On his
selection for the prestigious award, the trendy left hander was
interviewed by Star Majha
channel on 30th May 2011, when he had a frank chit chat with
Sports Correspondent Vijay Salvi .
When asked as to how much he would have enjoyed playing today's
new format of T20 cricket, Mr. Durani stated that he actually
played T20 type of cricket those days, while playing test
matches for India. He has the distinction of being the only
cricketer who would respond to a demand of hitting a six from
the crowd. The crowd would cheer "We want Sixer" and Durrani
would hit one. Reacting on this situation, Salimbhai, as he is
popularly known, praised the stadium crowd, with whose blessings
he could repeat that feat.
Salim Durani was all praise for Sachin Tendulkar, whom he called
the God sent player on the cricket field. At the same time,
while praising the present format of T-20 cricket and IPL
league, he stated that such format of cricket offered
opportunities to many young talents in India. He was also all

Talking about the performance of Chris Gayle, in the recently
concluded IPL, he stated that he was impressed by his technique
in aggressive batting. "He only reminded me of Garfield Sobers,
another West Indian all rounder during my time," he added.
A perfect all rounder who batted always in the lower middle
order in test cricket for India, finally managed to convince the
new captain Tiger Pataudi, who was replacement for injured Nari
Contractor. Mr. Durani batted at no.3 and later went on to hit a
century. While narrating this incidence, he praised his partner
and team mate Ramakant Desai the pace bowler of India during his
time, for his all round performance in partnership with him.
Another present Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan, who has been
rested for the one day series against West Indies and would join
the test series later, while speaking to
IBN Lokmat, stated that
the newcomers who have got an opportunity in this series, have a
very good chance to create their place in the team. "There are
many young talented players in the team full of enthusiasm," he
said.
