Incredible Neha Pendse's great fight back
Neha Pendse
Performing in total contrast to what she is playing in Zee Marathi's popular serial 'Bhagyalaxmi', Neha Pendse proved her class as a remarkable dancer in Zee Marathi's reality show 'Ekapeksha Ek Apsara Aali'. Neha first invited the attention of one and all with her belly dance, which she performed with ease in the same programme at the initial stage. No wonder, she was preferred by South film producers in their films. She however had to quit from this show, as she remained absent due to some health problem; but made her re-entry last week in the call-back episode.

Neha not only went on to offer variety, performing a cabaret 'Aa Jane Jaan' from the film 'Intaqam', but also proved her skills on a Marathi folk song the next day; to secure her position back into the competition. Also selected along with her in this call-back episode was Smita Tambe, another hard working and talented actress and dancer. Neha in particular is certainly going to give a big scare to other favourite dancing actresses in the forthcoming rounds.

Another Zee TV reality show 'Khupte Tithe Gupte' seems to be receiving mixed response, over the selection of guests. On Friday they offered actor Sandeep Kulkarni but his pairing did not match well with the firebrand social activist- Medha Patkar, who took her own time to answer in detail the questions posed to her, as if she was putting forward her point before the news media. Poor Sandeep had no other option but to wait for his turn. He was unnecessarily dragged into the topics meant for Medha Patkar, but the talented actor did use his diplomacy well. The same thing happened the next day in this programme, with a combination of Shirish Kanekar with politician Ramdas Athavale. But, their talk show was as it is overshadowed by the India-South Africa Cricket match.

On Sunday 13th March evening, Zee Marathi had ensured maximum viewership with telecast of their Good Night Advanced Sponsored Zee Gaurav Awards. Besides popular awards and good anchoring by Swapnil Joshi and Pushkar Kshotri, the traditional entertainment programme banked more on political satirical skits based on corruption and scams presented by Makarand Anaspure, Vijay Kadam and Satish Tare.

Marathi news channels covered the Black Friday that devastated Japan coastline with an earthquake followed by massive tsunami. But, there wasn't much talk as expected on the dangers of Nuclear power plant. The blast at the Fukushima plant, triggered by Japan's strongest earthquake, has certainly raised public concern about the safety of nuclear power. Mr. Shreyans Kumar Jain, chairman of Nuclear Power Corp of India has already said, "This event may be a big dampener for our programme. We can't close our eyes to peoples' concerns, which may be heightened after the Japan accident." The BBC News highlighted the facts in detail, with the dangers of radiation due to an accident at the nuclear plant post tsunami in Japan.

The controversy was slightly downplayed by the Marathi news channels on Saturday, as there was more coverage on cricket as India played South Africa and therefore there were more debates during the pre-match and post match sessions on cricket. However, on Monday morning, while there were other important news coverage like BJP Morcha on assembly and the aggressive Adivasi Morcha from Nandurbar heading towards Mantralaya from Thane and the 2nd blast of Hydrogen occurring at the Fukushima Nuclear plant, Japan, posing more danger for Radiation leak from reactor; covered by Star Mjha and Zee 24 Taas; the IBN Lokmat channel however thought more important to telecast live an exclusive of Dr. Anil Kakodkar's speech to Maharashtra assembly members and other dignitaries. The well known Indian scientist emphasized the need of Nuclear Power plants in India and tried to explain how safe it was to have it at Jaitapur. Surprisingly, there was no live coverage on question and answer session after his speech, with the media. The news channel did not capture the CM and other members of the assembly sleeping during the speech, which the popular Hindi channel did. One thing became clear that it was a big move by Maharashtra Government to nullify the possibility of doubts arising in the minds of people, but the time wasn't right, in view of the latest happenings at the Nuclear power plant in Japan.
