Marathi Dramas score over Cricket.
World Cup Cricket fever has prevented the release of many Marathi films, but the Marathi dramas are doing a fantastic business during this period, according to the latest news appearing on Marathi television channels. Whether it was 'Showtime' or 'Dhantedhan', these entertainment based news programmes focused more on Marathi dramas in absence of news from new films, during the week. In a special programme on Star Majha, the experts who spoke on the occasion said that A good Marathi drama will always attract good audience and it does not matter for them whether any Cricket match in the World Cup is going on. "Cricket can never kill Marathi drama", was the common opinion expressed by many artistes and drama producers.

The news reports on entertainment on the other channels also highlighted some of the old revived plays and the viewers did have a glimpse of some new arrivals on stage. Jaywant Dalvi's revived play 'Saare Pravasi Ghadiche' was also reviewed by the channels. 'Moruchi Maushi' is also all set to win the new audience, while 'Hamidabaichi Kothi' has already received a good response, as per news reports. This is a good news for Marathi drama producers and we only hope that many more to come will not let down those true drama lovers.

On the 6th March evening, Star Pravah channel also had the World Premiere of Marathi film 'Ek Daav Sansaracha' a sensible film directed by Sanjay Surkar. With its unusual subject, this film starring Sandeep Kulkarni, Sarika Nilatkar, Makarand Anaspure (in a serious role), Asavari Joshi, Nagesh Bhosale and Aatisha Naik did manage to catch up with the viewers in spite of the India-Ireland Cricket match, as there wasn't much interest left in that match with Ireland batting first with not so difficult target for India. In the absence of other programmes, the film received a sizeable viewership.

In the competition of serials, Mi Marathi channel now seems to be taking it seriously about increasing viewership of their programmes with new strategies. Their 'Khel Mandla' which is already on a new track; their another serial 'Tu Bhetashi Navyane' has invited popular stars through revised track in the screenplay. Mi Marathi have also started a new programme for youngsters presented by Meghana Erande, where she takes different stars from Marathi on a picnic with group of youngsters. This time it was the turn of Aniket Vishwasrao, who answered all the questions posed by youngsters very confidently. Replying to a tricky question, as to whom he considered as his beloved, he took a pause and mentioned the names of his parents.

On the political news front, the Jaitapur nuclear plant controversy seems to be flaring up with stricter action being taken against those who are opposing. It's high time that the TV news channels send their teams to the actual spot to investigate the real story behind it. Just by holding the debates, is not going to work in public interest. The sensible viewers are looking for on the spot report.
