Great Bhet with Dr. Himmatrao Bawaskar
The pioneer in snake & Scorpio venom vaccine researcher, Dr. Himmatrao Bawaskar was in the Great Bhet programme of IBN Lokmat this week. In this interesting and exclusive talk show, he spoke through his heart with Nikhil Wagle, Editor, IBN-Lokmat. Mr. Wagle with his timely questions successfully brought out the emotions of Dr. Bawaskar, who was getting nostalgic about the milestone in his career path.

It may be recalled that Dr. Bawaskar did not receive any highest award for his unique contribution, as majority of our country's population living in villages were dying after Scorpio and snake bites those days. Dr. Bawaskar certainly deserved more appreciation but his work went unnoticed. When asked about this apathy from the Government, the soft spoken and modest Doctor said that his biggest appreciation was from the poor people and their blessings were the biggest reward for him.

Son of poor farmer in Jalna district in Maharashtra, Dr.Bawaskar began his career in awful circumstances. Coming from a poor and illiterate family background, Dr. Bawaskar later became the first Indian vaccine researcher in snake and Scorpio venom. The much acclaimed but simple living doctor shared his life journey narrating some of his good and bad experiences. Besides his family members and few other well wishers, it was Bhai Sawant the politician who backed him in his mission. But, unfortunately none of the Doctors in India praised him openly for this commendable work at that time, when he received messages from Doctors all over the world complimenting him on this extra ordinary research.

Being the first successful vaccine researcher in the country, Dr. Bawiskar has published his biography titled 'Barristercha Kartta'. His research articles are also published and recognized in 'LANCET' - a top Medical Magazine in the world. It was very shocking to hear from him that when he submitted his papers for research during his PhD, his professor insisted on giving his name. Finally, he received recognition to his research from LANCET. In the concluding part of this discussion, Dr.Bawaskar who prefers maintaining a low profile, said that he was happy practicing at his own Hospital and Research Centre, in Mahad, Raigad District.

Last week on all Marathi news channels we observed only one person in news-Mr. Gopinath Mundhe. For the entire week he kept the media guessing about his next step in an attempt to get his problem in the party sorted out. Finally, it was Sushma Swaraj who succeeded in holding him to the party and throwing a curtain on the controversy.

Another news at the end of the week that invited the attention was about the expected new arrival in Bachchan family. After the news was confirmed by Big B through his blog about the expectation of new arrival soon in their family, Star Majha in an exclusive showed the old video clippings of Aishwarya and Bachchan family together in a happy mood , on the backdrop of the popular old hit Marathi song.. "Ga Kunitari Yenaar Yenaar Ga.."

Last but not the least, watching those Marathi serials of today, one wonders as to how the women viewers are tolerating those scenes where the women are frequently slapped by the Men folks. The intention is only to physically abuse a woman just in frustration. Our Marathi serials simply glorify such torturing acts. Why is the National Commission for Women silent on this issue? Now, even in Hindi serials we don't witness such scenes, where women are tortured and harassed to such an extent. CID, is the only exception where we see the officers take the full liberty to slap the culprits, but there too, there is a code of conduct. A woman officer slaps female culprit and male officers like Daya offering his Jor ka Jhatka to male criminals.
