Aamir Khan has a message for Senior Citizens

Aamir Khan, Satyamev JayateWith every new episode of Satyamev Jayate on Star Pravah channel, Aamir Khan has been offering something special for the society. Last Sunday, he not only brought to light some of the incidences, where selfish children after grabbing the property of their parents, have treated them inhumanly. Mr. Rath who was invited by the host, as an expert to give details about different schemes available to senior citizens in different states, stated that some of the state governments neglected even those senior citizens below poverty line.

Giving the details about the implementation of schemes for the welfare of Senior citizens, it was brought to the notice of viewers that only very few states like Tamil Nadu and Goa took god care of the senior citizens. While other states paid somewhere between Rs. 200 to Rs. 500/- only to those senior citizens above 65 years of age, who were below poverty line. Tamil Nadu Government paid Rs. 1000/- and 20 Kgs to cardholders and 15 kgs more to those below poverty line. The Goa government paid Rs. 2000/ - per month pension to all those above 65 years of age, whether they were below poverty line or not.

This is not the only step taken by Goa Government, as Mr. Parrikar, the CM of Goa has also introduced a scheme to help every girl child in the state, by depositing Rs. 1 lakh to her bank account, when she attains 18 years of age. In the earlier episode on injustice to girl child in our country, Aamir Khan should have highlighted this aspect. But, Maharashtra Government should take a lesson from Goa CM. The only IITan, who is chief minister of an Indian state, has however not found much coverage for his work efficiency, in Indian media. His recent visit to Mumbai on 7th July 2012 and his interaction with two senior media persons, did not find any coverage on Marathi electronic channels . Isn't that surprising ?

Besides showing this neglect towards the senior citizens, the 'Satyamev Jayate' also boosted the morale of such people, by spotting some elderly people who excelled in some of the sports. The video film of 91 year old Mr. Mahajan going on a trek and over and above that attempting adventure sport .Mr. Mahajan was himself present during the programme and when Mr. Khan introduced him, he received standing ovation from the enthusiastic audience present in the studio.

The programme however, passed a valuable advice to all those senior citizens, through an expert. And, it was to be wise and not to transfer property in the name of their children, while they were still alive. "There was no guarantee that the children would take care of their parents, after getting the benefits," said the expert.

The good news of Gujarat born Suneeta Williams from NASA, making a second trip in six months to space, was highlighted by almost all Marathi news channels. Few of her relatives in Gujarat were also shown distributing sweets on her latest achievement. Suneeta will spend three months in space, the news reported. Incidentally Suneeta has a personal record of spending about 29 hours outside space shuttle, while carrying out her research during her previous trip. Now, all eyes on her return from space.

Two more news that invited the attention of audience during the week. The first one was about the investigations being carried out in connection with the murder of Bollywood character artiste Laila Khan and her possible links with underworld. The other being the molestation of a 20 year old woman by a mob, at a public place in Guwahati and that too for almost half an hour. Now, the role of a Journalist, who had shot a video of the incidence is also being investigated, after a RTI activist alleged him for instigating the mob to molest the woman. Now, we notice protest rally demanding stringent punishment to all those involved in the incident, as only few have been arrested so far.
