The ongoing Cricket World Cup has brought excitement on Marathi
television Channels too, but it is only when India is playing.
Sachin seems to be the hot favourite among them. Audience in
majority isn't keen watching the news or matches, where weaker
teams like Kenya, Zimbabwe Netherlands, Ireland are facing
popular teams. "It is simply waste of time, watching matches
against such weaker teams," seems to be the opinion of majority
of the viewers. So, Marathi film distributors can take a chance
of releasing the films, which have been postponed due to
expected Cricket World Cup fever, which intensifies only when
India plays tough opponents.
Many TV channels also took the opinion of various celebrities
and all of them have wished that India should win, looking at
the present form of the team. Former Cricketer Kiran More, while
interviewing Shiv Sena President Mr. Uddhav Thackeray, asked
him, whether he would go and watch the finals to be played at
the Wankhede Stadium, and he said that he would think about it.
Realizing his awkwardness to answer this question, the former
India keeper then directly asked him, what if India play
Pakistan in finals? And the shrewd Politician answered that the
decision on this issue will be taken by the Chief- Balasaheb
Thackeray, at appropriate time. He however hinted that Pakistan
was not the enemy of Shiv Sena, but of this country and whatever
decisions taken are in the interest of the country.
In the meanwhile, after the incidence of Pakistani Singer Rahat
Ali Khan being interrogated by DRI of India and being fined
heavily for carrying foreign exchange on his way to Pakistan
from India; both Shiv Sena and MNS have intensified their stand
on banning the Pakistani artistes performing in Mumbai for any
live or television show. The TV news channels reported.
The Mumbai High Court has confirmed the death sentence of
dreaded terrorist Kasab, the only survivor among the group that
attacked Mumbai on 26th November 2008. But, the other two
alleged criminals Faheem & Sabhauddin said to have be involved
in helping the terrorists attack have been acquitted for want of
sufficient evidence. Their involvement has however not been
denied by the high court, according to Special Public Prosecutor
Ujwal Nikam. In the meanwhile, the news about Chief Minister
Pritviraj Chavan taking a decision to appeal in Supreme Court
against their acquittal, has been flashed by the channels. CM
has also congratulated Mr. Nikam for fighting the case
successfully on behalf of the state.
Incidentally, Zee TV
through their programme 'Khupte
Tithe Gupte' had very timely invited Mr. Ujwal Nikam along
with Shivaji
Satam in their talk show on Saturday and it was a pleasure
to watch both these personalities speak against what was
happening in this country. While Mr. Satam expressed his
displeasure over the scams and corruption and spending tax
payer's money over security of dreaded terrorists, Mr. Nikam
said that he was unhappy over the manner in which the execution
of death sentences were delayed because of the existing
procedure. In a mock telephonic act, where he had to express his
thoughts to someone, he chose the Hon. President of India and
made a humble request to her to expedite the decisions on mercy
petitions filed by the criminals, whose death sentence has been
confirmed by the Supreme Court. Finally, when he was asked what
would have been his first reaction if he had met Kasab face to
face, had he not been an advocate; the dynamic Public Prosecutor
replied, "I would have slapped him hard."
