The news channels during the week continued with their stories on exposure of
more politicians and Government officials connected with 2G, Aadarsh and
Commonwealth scams. The latest being that of an official from PMO's involvement
in 2G scam. This has come to light after the congress MP Suresh Kalmadi was
taken to custody. The news channels suspect the involvement of many more besides
Mr.Kalmadi. Earlier, a news was highlighted about Dy.C.M. Ajit Pawar's
involvement in the Aadarsh Society flat allotment, wherein it has been alleged
that his close associates were allotted three flats in the society. There is
also a controversy over his present residence in Pune, which is a surprisingly a
rented accommodation. As expected, the politician has denied his connection.
But, former C.M. Mr. Ashok Chavan is facing another allegation about his
mother-in-law being given a loan to buy Aadarsha flat by a Police officer's
father, who in return was allotted a flat in Aadarsha.
After the death of Sri Satya Sai Baba, news channels have covered exclusive
coverage of his devotees rushing to Puttaparthi. Besides the politicians in
power and in opposition, we also saw cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin
Tendulkar captured by the cameras. Now, even after his Samadhi, we are
witnessing debate over his legacy and his so called powers. IBN-Lokmat held a
debate to discuss whether Baba's life itself was a miracle? And, majority of the
viewers denied it. Dr. Narendra Dabholkar head of the unit to remove
superstition and other experts in the field of Human Behavioral Science, who
took part in the debate agreed that he had done good work towards charity but
refused to accept the practice based on which he attracted the devotees merely
on blind faith.
IBN-Lokmat also presented a news related to stern action taken by the Municipal
Commissioner of Mumbai against a Shiv Sena Corporator Meenakshi Patil from
Kanjur Marg for her involvement in an unauthorized construction. The news
reported that this was the first case, where the Municipal commissioner has
taken such action against any Corporator. They also flashed the news relating
to Mayor Shraddha Jadhav's husband who is alleged to have used the premises of a
closed Municipal School for his business. Opposition party Corporators have
demanded her resignation for the same. Zee 24 Taas had presented a special
report on the Royal wedding of Kate and Williams including the videos of Royal
kiss.
After the killing of a fisherman in Police firing, there was news spreading
about tense situation there with media being prevented from entering the
disputed site. The IBN-Lokmat reporter however managed to reach to the affected
village Sakhari-Naate and spoke to the fishermen, whose business will be affected
in a big way due to construction of the proposed Nuclear Power plant. The
fishermen spoke about the dangers of the Nuclear waste that will mix with sea
water raising the temperature in that area, which would ultimately prevent the
fish from entering that place resulting into heavy loss for them. "How far and
Where do we have to move for our business? The Government is yet to decide on
that." they asked.
Fortunately, the news on cricket has taken a back seat on Marathi channels with
not much importance to IPL-20-20, compared to the way they covered the World
Cup. With the Cricket craze going down, the business of films is picking up in
theatres. As per reports received, Marathi film 'Taryanche Bait' is still doing
a good business in third week and the new Zee Talkies film
'Mast Chalalay Aamcha'
had 80% opening on the first day of its release all over Maharashtra. No wonder,
three more Marathi films have lined up for release next week.
