'Agnihotra' invites the attention of one and all
Mrunmayee Deshpande  Agnihotra
Looking at the response Marathi films are receiving now days at theatres and multiplexes, the credit certainly goes to the film makers who have brought in the change; with new subjects and good cinematic presentation. At the same time, some of our Marathi TV serials have invited the attention of new viewers, who have found variety in them. A sizeable number of TV viewers knowing marathi, have switched over from monotonous Hindi serials to these new Marathi serials.

Last year, many Marathi serials had good title music to grab the attention, but had less of content . However, now they are paying more attention on content. You just can’t drag on with the same issue for long in marathi serials, as we observe in Hindi, as the Marathi viewers quickly change over to some other programmes. So, that has brought in a tough competition among the different channels to present something that would keep the entire family together glued to their TV sets. And, meeting these requirements, there is only one serial i.e. ‘Agnihotra’ on Star Pravah, which fits into this category.

If we study the reasons for the rising popularity of this serial, the artistes look natural. Watch their body language, their simple costumes and the locations. They all look very natural. You don’t get the feeling that the scenes have been shot on an artificial setting. Above all, the performances of all the artistes speak for themselves. The combination of young and old has been cleverly mixed to show the generation gap. And, one should not forget the two newcomers- Mrunmayee Deshpande and Siddharth Chandekar playing Neel & Saee respectively. Even their popularity as new stars is rising day by day.

In fact, Zee TV’s ‘Kunku’ is being watched only for the sake of Mrunmayee’s popularity. There are many new serials offering variety of subjects but there is less of content and more melodrama, like typical bollywood films of 60s and 70s. Each one of them having their own target audience/ viewers; but they have yet to catch up with the entire family.
