'Gaiir' is a well presented movie
Ferrari, Lexis, Chopper, lavish sets, and stunning outdoor locations… hey, I am not talking about any big budget Hindi film. These are some of the specific characteristics of latest Marathi movie – ‘Gaiir’. But still these are not the most attractive features, which would make the audiences appreciate this movie. There is a tight script, mind-boggling dialogs, dazzling acting, excellent camera and technical work that makes the movie presentable . In short, it’s a perfect movie not just because of its big budget but also because of dedication and efforts put in by cast and crew of the movie.

Sandeep Kulkarni As indicated in the promos it is a suspense thriller movie. Sameer Shroff (Sandeep Kulkarni) is a corporate giant. Smart, young, good looking and dashing personality. He marries an NRI’s daughter – Neha (Amrtuta Khanwilkar). Just like other newly married couples, they have a dream of pleasant future ahead. Suddenly, Neha and some other friends and colleagues of Samir realise that Samir’s duplicate exists in the same city. Samir’s duplicate targets Neha and tries to disturb his personal as well as professional life. Inspector Avinash Sardesai (Ankush Chaudhari) helps Sameer to solve the issue. Finally, movie ends with shocking end, certainly worth watching on the big screen.
The movie has good star cast including Sandeep Kulkarni, Amruta Khanwilkar, Ankush Chaudhari, Ila Bhate, Uday Tikekar and everybody has given superb performance. But still there is only one award for man of the match and it is none other than  Sandeep Kulkarni. We had seen him in Shwaas, Dombiwli Fast, Made in China – all movies were based upon some social issues. But the way he has changed his body language, facial expressions, looks to present a legendary businessman, is simply amazing. Ankush’s performance was great as usual but Marathi film industry has got another talented actress in the form of Amruta and she is proving it with her every film. Uday Tikekar, Ila Bhate and Tejaswini Pandit’s performances  were pleasant and increased the flavor of the movie. Vandana Gupte and Chinmay Mandlekar’s short but sweet appearances were also  pleasing.

What makes a movie great from good is perfect combination of on screen and off screen (technical) performance and Gair is an ideal example of it. Parag Kulkarni has written a fantastic story, Satish Rajvade has given golden touch with good screenplay and Satish and Parag have made it even better with hard hitting dialogs. We have seen Satish’s talent in his previous movie – Ek daav Dhobipachad.. Background music has played major role in enrichment of the movie and due credit has to be given. The movie catches the attraction even with the effective use of background score. Even post production method is beautifully handled. Extra cuts, misbalancing effects are used beautifully. Atul Shidhaye has given useful contribution in styling of the movie. But movie loses it’s hold over audiences for last 5-7 minutes, also the idea of using  romantic ‘Hindi’ song in Marathi movie is not acceptable.

The music will be remembered for ages
I had earlier also posted comment on Gaiir. just i want to tell vishal & other people who didnt like the music, i think you dont have the ear for good music or you may be listening too much of bollywood music. i agree hindi songs in marathi movie is irritating, that our marathi film fraternity should realise, but listen the hariharan song "halke preet zaage" & the title song, these songs you will not forget for ages, atleast i do listen to Gaiir music in my mobile daily & i had watched the movie 5 times in theatres, i am just waiting when the dvd is launching.

Take your chances...
So the only reason we should promote this movie is because this movie is marathi? I dont agree. I would have agreed with you if this movie had an iota of sense. It was an utter nonsense. Critic cannot write good review only because he wants to promote marathi movies. The movie should not only be technically peferect but also handle its subject convincingly. If we praise the movie in the name of \'experiment\' then sooner or later Marathi movies will degenerate to tollywood movies. Those movies has everything -- good cast, good locations, good post production, etc but what it lacks is good story!!! Nothing was more frustating than to watch the top talents like Sandeep Kulkarni and Ankush Chaudhary struggling to treat the films groundless story, clumsy direction, cacophonic music and immature screenplay with perfect seriosness. You pays your money, you takes your chances. Rating : 1/5

Awesome Movie
Indeed a great movie. I totally agree with Poonam, Ramesh and Nilesh. Very few directors in the Marathi take such risk to introduce such different theme. Hats of to the Satish Rajwade. And Kunal, please dont post such nonsense. The movie was technically perfect although there were minor faults as pointed by Chaintanya (like showing police vehicle with \"SG (sanjay Ghodavat)\" group logo on rear). Songs were awesome and I was humming those songs allday... If you dont like marathi movie then please dont watch it.. This movie was for young peoples like us... not oldies like you..

Awesome, Superb, Cool, Thrilling
Just ignore the hopeless comments which insults such a fabulous thrilling movie which I think even we had not seen in hindi ever. The movie is superbly & crisply directed, awesome music, beautiful locations, fantabulous background score, top performance by lead actors, especially Sandeep Kulkarni. Kudos to everybody associated with this movie. The movie excels in every department be it smart camera work, choreography, editing & styling. There are so many shocking movements in the movie , especially the climax. I am just watching this movie for the third time & still I am enjoying the shocks. Keep it up guys , its a Great Great Great movie.

Review
Oops! What’ happening yaar? Kunal , you are a real hero. At least you had the guts to point out the flaws from the film Gaiir . In fact, your views were more entertaining than the film. And, why so much of noise yaar? In democracy, everybody has a right to speak and write .( freedom of Expression, be it in any form) Where is the question of digesting stupidity, only for the sake of Protecting marathi films and that too at our cost ? . You just can’t compare this film with Checkmate, which was far superior. Gaiiir only copies the style of Abbas Mastan and Anees Bazmee and the photography, sound effects and special effects are well managed. That’s all. But, the presentation and especially the uncovering of suspense is not satisfying. Above all, what about our wastage of time and the money that we spent watching this foolish climax in a multiplex ? Will somebody take note of this please!

New Depths achieved
Indeed this movie has achieved a new low.......... This movie is a indigestable mixture of bad direction, even worse acting and sloppy camera work. Anything that could have gone wrong with a movie has indeed gone horribly wrong. The story is a hopeless wannabe version of an English flick.Logic goes for a total toss in the entire movie right from the very first scene, which challenges the intellect of the marathi viewer. The scenes are silly and dialogues like \"What Saavli\" evoke laughter instead of the desired tension. The camera work is daily soap worthy with the standard whoosh whoosh from 4 angles on every actor in the frame. The songs donot fit into the movie and are not even catchy .The lead actors look reluctant and uncomfortable in the love scenes. The 20 mins used in the end to clear the confusion should have been better utilised, being a part of the movie instead of the story telling. Satish Rajwade looks like poor distant marathi cousin of Abbas-Mastan, though they will be very proud of him. Among the cast, Amruta is not only loud but overacts so much which makes Rakhi Sawant look like a Star. Ankush doesnt pull off the cool cop look and looks like a lost kid in a park with his Sweater look.Uday Tikekar doesnot suit the role of the playboy although he still puts in a spirited effort. Sandeep Kulkarni is the stand-out performer but at times looks lost with sub standard co-stars. The movie has a strong chance at the Razzies. The movie could have been much better even with the same storyline. We give the movie half star. So go at your own risk!!!

Hi Ajinkya, You not denying any of my comment but rather asking me to give the movie a benefit of doubt itself shows that you do agree with the comments at some level. I am a huge Marathi movie fan. I have seen movies like Checkmate, Saade Maade Teen, Savarkhed - Ek Gao, etc. umpteen times. Not to mention classics like Shwaas, Ratraarambh, Devrai, etc. I am one of the fellows who actually goes and buys Marathi CDs and DVDs. And Yes, I am really excited about Harishchandra chi Factory. However, Gaiir was really not upto the mark and hence the strong criticism. Thank you for replying to my comment. Hope to receive favourable comments from you on my further posts.

Technically sound, good story, out of box marathi movie but wait list ends here. Some flaws are visible throughout the film
1) songs are hopeless and reducing movie pace.
2) some minor things not taken into consideration like showing police vehicle with \"SG (sanjay Ghodavat)\" group logo on rear
3) story not able to answer logical reason of why and how things went like this
4) As usual unecessary explaination on plot in the end.
I don\'t understand why to explain everything to public. It is kind of insulting public intellegence. But overall it is average movie. I can definitely rate it 3.5 out of 5.

Hi Kunal, Perception differs from person to person. There is nothing wrong in reacting to bad show in \'Gaiir\' . Some of your comments are based on fact. The director has tried to fool marathi audience, taking them for granted. It looks like that you are a better critic but also appreciate the progress made by Marathi film industry in other areas especially in the post production. Otherwise, your comments are to the point. Unless we point out the mistakes, our new age marathi film makers will not know, where they are going wrong. Please continue to send your views . MMW shall be happy to receive your review on the first day of film\'s release. Keep it up.

@ Kunal- I think you are just over-reacting! 'Gaiir'' was a fantastic movie....with amazing effects, good performances, Sandeep Kulkarni looks so dashing and different from his past movies. There is not a hint of a plausible end for this movie. The curiosity levels increase till you reach the end. If you watch the movie as a technically perfect person, you may find the flaws, however we are regular audiences who love to glorify new and improved changes in Marathi cinema. We just want to encourage new talent, new technology.
@ Ulhas- I think u must be a movie critic. There is nothing wrong in pointing out flaws, but as they say 'Khanakharabi' ...at least don't do that! you should thank Satish Rajwade for a refreshing dose of suspense genre after a long time. It was not fooling the audience as you have put it. We as an audience love to see something unusual, something which is not 'run of the mill' types! Then you can take a little liberty...Movie is an expression after all!
@ Others- I think the songs were really nice, background score at Sandeep's entry was unforgettable! Tejaswini Pandit, Uday Tikekar have given full justice to their roles. Amruta, Ankush have looked good and acted well throughout. And the song Gaiir' is a catchy number.
Nilesh | Wed, Nov 18, 2009 at 12:49 PM
@ Kunal : Please dont watch every movie expecting it to be another 'Jogwa', 'Shwaas' ,'Dombivli fast'. Its a normal masala thriller entertainer . So, watch it, enjoy the visuals and go home. Infact, all of us should be happy about the kind of progress that marathi cinema is making technically. And I am sure there are many people who dont mind blowing up 200-300 bucks on ugly bollywood stuff like 'All the best' ,'Golmaal' etc. in which we have people slapping each other, getting electric shocks and flying in air. So many people lap up such stuff with "Arre doka baajula thevun bagh na". But when a marathi movie ( a sincere attempt ) doesnt live up to your expectations, we are happy to tear it part...
