Marathi films bag maximum National Awards

It was a great day for Marathi films today, as many of the 58th National awards announced, were bagged by them. ‘Mee Sindhutai Sapkal’ went on to bag two awards; The Special Jury award for the best film and the Best screenplay award (adapted) which was shared by Anant Mahadevan and Sanjay Pawar.

Marathi actress Mitali Jagtap Varadkar was declared as the best actress in Indian cinema. This award was for her role in ‘Babu Band Bajaa’. Mitali played the role of a mother who brings up her children through hardship. She shared this award with Tamil actress Saranya. The best playback singer (Male) award was bagged by Suresh Wadkar for the film ‘Mala Aai Vhaychay’. This film won the best Marathi film award for this year.

Two more Marathi films also won the National awards i.e. The Indira Gandhi award for best debut of a director which went to ‘Babu Band Bajaa’ and ‘Champions’ won the best film award on Social issues. All the three best child artistes awards went to Marathi cinema. They were shared by Shantaram Rangnekar, Machchindra Gadekar (Champions) and Vivek Chabukswar ( Babu Band Bajaa) .
