Set during the last stage of Portuguese rule in Goa, Marmabandh explores themes of collision between real life and the power of the artistic urge to renew itself.

Jayvant Shirodkar excels on the Marathi stage in female character. Financial compulsions make him to seek a job in far way Bombay as a technician in film processing lab but he keeps deeply rooted to the theatre. After an argument with his senior in the workplace, he quits the job to join theatre in Goa. Unhappy over his decision to join theatre, his wife Jayanti finds it difficult to adapt to the new life. This results in constant arguments between the two. One day the argument culminates in an accidental death of Jayanti and Jayvant is sentenced to life imprisonment.

Goa becomes part of India in 1961 and Jayvant gets amnesty along with other prison inmates. He wants to pursue his passion but the times are changed. There is very little scope for males performing female roles. The film unfolds trials and tribulations of an artist who’s craving to recapture the glory days through the changing times, clinging on to his passion for theatre.will he succeed?
