I have worked very hard to reach this stage - Namrata Kadam
In 2007 , Popular TV serial ‘Kalat Nakalat’ opened the doors for one talented actress to prove her ability. In that character of FM ( Fulwanti Mane)she turned out to be the most important character, though she played a housemaid. Indeed, Namrata Kadam gave full justice to her role. Today, she has to her credit a number of TV serials and films. We saw her as a kabaddi player Meena in ‘Laksman Rehsha’ and recently witnessed her playing a totally contrast role of a Company Secretary in E TV's ‘Kasturi’. Having worked with reputed directors like Jabbar Patel, Rajan Waghdhare, Sai Paranjape, Kedar Shinde, Sangeet Kulkarni and Neelakanti Patekar, she got her first break into films in the year 2006 with ‘Hi Porgi Konachi’ followed by another great performance in a DVD format film ‘ Chivitrach Saare’ directed by Nelakanti Patekar.
Marathi Movie world spoke to this charming actress to know more about her background and her experiences in this entertainment industry. Excerpts from an interview:

Q: What prompted you to turn towards acting career ?
A: Actually, as a child I had seen my uncle Vijay Kadam perform in plays and films; but was never attracted to this field. It all happened by chance, when little before an Inter School drama competition, when I had gone to watch the rehearsal of a friend, they picked me as a substitute for another girl, who couldn’t make it at the eleventh hour. Rest was my destiny, as later in my school- Balmohan Vidymandir, under the guidance of Ms. Vidya Patwardhan, I was groomed into a complete artiste during my childhood.
Q: How encouraging were the school authorities and your parents for this activity ?
A: Vidya madam was very encouraging while we attended the dramatics workshop.

Initially, she offered us opportunity as dubbing artistes, which only enhanced our confidence and made us perfect in dialogue delivery. She also recommended each one of us to different directors. In 1999, I got one such opportunity to work with Ms. Sai Paranjape, when she was making serials for DD. Little before that when I was in 7th standard, I was so busy with rehearsals and stage plays that I used to start my day at 8 am and return during mid night hours. However, my parents were always with me and that helped me to opt for this career. But, let me tell you, I have worked very hard to reach this stage.
Q: Were there any other students in your school, who attained success ?
A: Yes, there were many, who made it in different fields of this media. Some of them were one or two batches senior to me but we knew each other well. To name a few, Meghna Erande, Ketaki Thatte, Amey Salvi and Tapan Madkikar. Today, they are all doing well in their respective fields. Thanks to Vidya Madam and our Principal Mr. Dabholkar.
Q: Tell us about your journey into TV serials, i.e from ‘Kalat Nakalat’ to ‘Kasturi’ ?
A: When I was offered this role of FM- the housemaid, initially I was doubtful as to what it would be like, but I was convinced by the Production Manager Teja Neswankar that it was the most challenging role. When the shooting progressed, I started realizing the importance of that character, which was even linked with the hero like Subodh Bhave. So, with‘Kalat Nakalat’ running for more than two years, I had the best opportunity to interact with every important character of this serial. I had the privilege of working with all the three directors in rotation, namely Mahesh Tagde, Kedar Vaidya and Shridhar Patil. It was my luck to find continuity in serials, as ‘Kalat Nakalat’ ended and within two days my another serial ‘Lakshman Resha’ was aired, followed by ‘Kasturi’. In the meanwhile, I had also performed cameo in other serials like ‘Malwani Days’, ‘Gangubai Non Matric’. I was also part of Agnisheekha and I should thank Girish Mohite and Iris productions.
Q: In ‘Lakshman Resha’ we saw you as a kabaddi player- Meena . Are you a student of Samarth Vyayam Mandir, Shivaji park well equipped with acrobatics?
A: Actually, I have never played Kabaddi before; but when the role was offered to me I took some tips from my friend Meetali Koregaonkar, who has already won Chhatrapati Award for excellence in kabbadi. In the entire cast, there was only one girl - Suvarna Bartakke, who had actually played Kabaddi. For this role, I focused my attention more on the body language, especially their standing position and the stance taken during the game ; as I used to be more scared of injuries during the shots taken of actual play.
Q: And how about that total makeover we saw in you as Company Secretary in ‘kasturi’?
A: My role as a Company Secretary in ‘Kasturi’ was a total contrast to the roles I played in previous serials. Writer Chinmay Mandlekar had made it more challenging for me, in every respect; be it the way I walked, the way I spoke and the manner in which I reacted to different situations.
Q: With already two films in the lead and a number of successful serials, what next ?
A: I have worked in a UTV project directed by Mandar Deosthali. This will be aired around last week of June 2010.
