  • Sulochana Didi

    Sulochana Devi:
    Mostly known by her screen name Sulochana, (born 30 July 1928), she is the Grand old woman of Indian Cinema. A well-known actress of Marathi and Hindi cinema, who is most known for her performances in 250 Marathi films, like 'Vahinichya Bangdya', 'Meeth Bhakar' and 'Dhakti Jau'. 
    In 2003 she was awarded the Chitrabhushan award instituted by the, Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Baburao Painter, one of the founders of the modern Marathi cinema.
    In 2009, she was awarded the Maharashtra Bhushan award by the government of Maharashtra."

  • Sai Paranjpe

    Sai Paranjape:
    Daughter of Sahkauntala Paranjpe, well known actress of yesteryears, Sai was raised in the house of her Maternal Grandfather  , Sir R. P. Paranjpe, who was a renowned mathematician and an educationist.  As a child, she used to walk up to her uncle, Achyut Ranade, a noted filmmaker of the ’40s and ’50s, up Fergusson Hill in Pune, who would tell stories as if he were narrating a screenplay. Sai took to writing early in her life, and her first book of fairy tales, Mulancha Mewa’  (in Marathi) was published when she was just 8 years old.

    Over the years, Sai has written and directed plays in Marathi, Hindi, and English, both for adults and children. She has written and directed so far six feature films, two children’s films, and five documentaries. She has also written many books for children, and six of her books have won national or state level awards. Presently her two plays ‘Sakkhe Shejari’ and ‘Jaswandi’ are receiving good response.

  • Seema Deo

    Seema Deo:
    Formerly known as Nalini Saraf, she became Seema Deo after her marriage to Popular actor of Marathi cinema- Ramesh Deo.  She has completed more than 50 years in Marathi films and was seen recently giving a fine performance through her son’s film ‘Jetaa’.

    She took up acting, after she lost her father to lift the financial responsibility of the family. “Aliya Bhogasi” was her first film and Ramesh Deo was her co-artist. She played his sister’s role in that  film. She also played his daughter’s role in the film “Padchhaaya”. She became his heroine through the film “Gyanaba Tukaram and thereafter paired with him in “Yanda Kartavya Aahe”, “Maazee Aai”, “Suvasinee”, “Soniyachi Paule”and “Molkareen.

    “Jagachya Patheevar” was the first important film which proved Seema as an actress and shaped up  her film career. Her other lead roles in films like  “Suwasinee”, “Ha Mazaa Marg Ekala”, “Pahoo Re kiti Waat”, “Aparadh” and  “Ya Sukhanno Ya” were equally popular. famous. She was conferred with the ‘Best Actress Award’ by Government Of Maharashtra in 1963 for her role in “Pahoo Re Kiti Waat”. Seema Deo also performed in a number of Bollywood films.

  • Asha Kale

    Asha Kale:
    From 1961 to 1988 she was actively associated with Marathi cinema with some of the best performances. She was presented with  the prestigious V Shantaram lifetime achievement award by the State Government of Maharashtra in 2010. Some of her films like Putravati (1996)Maherchi Manse (1984),Kulswamini Ambabai (1984),Ganimi Kawa (1981),Ashtavinayak, (1979)Bala Gaau Kashi Angai (1977),Ha Khel Savlancha (1976),Jyotibacha Navas (1975),Ghar Gangechya Kathi (1975) ,Kunkuvacha Karanda (1971), Ashi Rangali Ratra (1970), Satiche Vaan (1969) and Tambadi Maati (1969) turned out to be popular films. Asha Kale is also a popular stage artist

  • Alka Kubal Athalye

    Alka Kubal :
    During 80s and 90’s alka kubal was the most popular actress of Marathi cinema.

    Chakra ,Yeda Ki Khula ,   Jasa Baap Tashi Poore, Lapwa Chhapwi ,   Shubha Bol Narya, Balache Baap Brahmachari, Vahinichi Maya,Maherchi Saadi, are some of her popular films. She has also performed in Shirdi Sai Baba (2001)  . She has turned a producer of Marathi films now. Presently, her serial ‘Mangalsutra’ is running on television.  

  • Neena Kulkarni, Nina Kulkarni

    Neena Kulkarni:
    Neena Kulkarni , one of the finest actresses has not only been  acknowledged in the world of Marathi stage, cinema and television but also by Bollywood. Neena  made an identity for herself among Marathi language audiences with the central character of Tara Rani in Smita Talwalkar's historical venture Peshwai, which recreated the Peshwa era, in a tele-serial.

    A graduate in Arts from Mumbai's Elphistone College, with specialization in French, Neena began her career with theatre when she was a kid. . She grew up  in  Makrand Society colony in Mahim.  She continued with theatre and made a place for herself as a sensible and committed actress. Later, she moved to television and started afresh by playing mother roles . Today, she is one of the leading actresses on Marathi television.

  • Ashwini Bhave

    Ashwini Bhave:
    She is one of the talented and glamorous actresses the Marathi cinema has gifted to Bollywood. Ashwini made her entry through Marathi films and has also done Marathi serials. She was born in Mumbai and graduated from the Ruparel College in philosophy. She did her first Marathi play when she was in eleventh grade. She got married to a Kishore Bopadikar, a software engineer and  the founder of the software company San Francisco in the United States of America.

    Even after marriage Ashwini produced a quality film ‘Kadachit’ in the recent past, which won awards.

  • reema lagoo, Rima Lagu

    Reema Lagoo:
    She is another popular actress from Marathi film and stage who invited the attention of Bollywood and later turned out to be the Mother of most of the popular actor’s characters. Her mother was a well-known actress on the Marathi stage. Her acting abilities were noted when she was a student at the Huzurpaga High school in Pune. Her professional acting began soon after finishing high school. Her first acting jobs was on the Marathi stage.

    In late 1970s or early 1980s, she started acting in Hindi and Marathi films. She married the Marathi actor Vivek Lagoo. After marriage, she took the name Reema Lagoo. She has a daughter named Mrunmayee Lagoo .

  • Varsha Usgaonkar

    Varsha Usgaonkar :
    A popular Marathi  actress from Goa, she has worked in various Bollywood and Marathi movies as the leading lady. During the 1990s, she was the most popular actress in Marathi cinema, after making her debut in Sachin’s film ‘Gammat Jammat’ Varsha also starred in B. R. Chopra’s popular Mega Serial ‘Mahabharat’ playing the role of Uttara.

    Today, she is the most popular actress on Marathi television, playing Mother’s roles. She is also a good programme host and also a singer.

     Smita Talwalkar :
    More than an actress she became popular as a film maker , producing some of the quality films like Chaukat Raja ,Tu Tithe Mee’   Sawat Majhi Ladki , and Saat Chya Aat Gharaat’ . A finest stage actress, she had recently performed in a popular stage play ‘Govind Ghya Kuni Gopal Ghya’ in which she played a typical vegetable vendor.  Smita talwalkar is also atelevision actress and has produced many quality serials too.
